Remove the location from a photo
Take the GPS position out of a photo and keep its date and camera details. The picture is not touched, and it never leaves your device.
Drop a photo, or click to choose
JPG, PNG or WebP. Only the location is removed.
How to remove the location from a photo
- Add the photo. Location is already the choice, so a copy without the GPS position and place names is made straight away.
- Check what was found. The Location group shows the position the photo carried, struck through. Camera, date and the rest stay as they were.
- Download the clean copy. Share that copy instead of the original. The picture itself is byte for byte the same.
Why remove only the location
When a phone camera has location turned on, it writes the exact spot into every photo, often to within a few metres. A picture taken at home tells anyone who opens the file where you live. The date and camera details are rarely a risk, and they are useful: albums sort by date and some apps show the camera settings. Removing just the location keeps those.
If you would rather take out everything, including camera serial numbers, switch to Everything in the panel. To correct the position instead of removing it, pick Edit and type the latitude and longitude. The full photo metadata viewer shows every field a photo carries.
When the location travels with a photo
Some apps remove location when you post. A photo sent as a file is different: an email attachment, a cloud storage link or a chat app’s “send as file” option usually delivers it exactly as it left the phone, location included. Clean the copy before sending it that way.
To stop new photos recording it at all: on an iPhone, Settings, Privacy and Security, Location Services, Camera, then Never. On Android, open the camera app’s settings and turn off location tags (the name varies by phone maker).
The full tool
This page opens Photo metadata (EXIF) viewer set to remove the location only. Every other option is still there, so you can change your mind without leaving. For other jobs, see all image tools.
