Frequently asked questions
The tools run in your browser, so your files stay on your device. Here is what that means for privacy, file sizes, devices and the work you leave behind.
Your files and privacy
Are my files uploaded?
No. Every tool opens, changes and saves your file inside your browser, on your device. The page loads its own code, analytics and ads from the internet, but your file is never uploaded.
Are the passwords I type into Unlock PDF or Protect PDF kept?
No. Unlock PDF and Protect PDF use the password on your device for that one file and never save or upload it. It is not kept with Recent work either, so after a refresh you type it again.
What analytics and cookies does the site use?
Analytics and error reports record which tools and settings are used and when a page breaks, and ads may use cookies. If your browser’s time zone is in Europe, including the UK, the site asks before loading them, and Privacy choices at the bottom of every page changes your answer. The privacy policy lists each kind of service.
Cost and sign-up
Is it free? Why are there ads?
Every tool is free, as often as you like. Ads pay for the site, and they sit between the sections of a page, never inside a tool or on your file.
Do I need an account?
No. Open any tool and use it straight away; the site has no sign-up or login.
Will my file get a watermark?
No. Nothing is drawn on your image or PDF. The downloaded file's name ends in “_tools.myutils.me”, and most files also list the site as the app that made them in their properties.
Devices and browsers
Which browsers does it work in?
Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, on computers and phones. A few extras appear only where the browser offers them: the Share button, reading a QR code with the camera, and picking a colour from anywhere on the screen.
Does it work on phones and tablets?
Yes. Every tool works in a phone or tablet browser, with the preview first and the options below it. Very large files, such as long scanned PDFs or huge photos, can be more than a phone's memory holds, so use a computer for those.
How large a file can I use?
Nothing is uploaded, so the limit is your device’s memory, and a computer copes with bigger files than a phone. A few tools set their own ceiling so the tab does not crash: 50 megapixels in the Photo editor, 100 megapixels in Watermark photos and 200 MB in Verify PDF signature.
Does it work offline?
Not yet. The site needs an internet connection to open a page and load the parts each tool uses. Your file is still processed on your device and never uploaded.
Recent work
Where is my recent work stored?
Only in this browser on this device, and it is never uploaded. Most tools keep your work as you go, up to 20 projects and 200 MB in all; the oldest is dropped to make room, and a single project over 100 MB is not kept. Another browser or device will not see it.
How do I delete my recent work?
Open Recent workand delete one project, or choose Clear all and confirm to delete everything. Clearing this site’s data in your browser settings removes it too.
