Add text to a photo
Type a caption, drag it into place, and style it. Your photo stays on your device.
Drop a photo to add text, or click to choose
JPG, PNG or WebP. It stays on your device.
How it works
- Choose a photo. A line of text is placed in the middle, ready to type over.
- Type, then drag it where you want it. Drag the yellow corner to resize and turn it, or tap Top, Middle or Bottom.
- Style it and download. Pick a typeface, colour and outline. Add more text for a second caption.
Making text readable on a photo
Text has to stand out from whatever is behind it. White text with Outline on works on almost any photo, because the dark edge separates each letter from bright and dark areas alike. On a busy background, lay a gradient behind the words: the Dark base preset in the photo editor darkens just the bottom of the picture, where captions usually sit. Keep captions short and large; small text disappears once a photo is shown as a thumbnail.
What you can change
- Several lines in one block: press Enter for a new line.
- Three typefaces (sans, serif and rounded), bold or regular.
- Six one-tap colours, or any colour from the picker.
- An outline that switches between dark and light to suit the text colour.
- Size and angle by dragging, with sliders, or with the keyboard (+, -, [ and ]).
Text uses fonts already on your device, so nothing extra downloads. The photo itself never leaves your device.

Common questions
How do I add text to a picture?
Choose the photo, type over the text that appears, then drag it into place. Drag its yellow corner to make it bigger or turn it.
Can I add more than one piece of text?
Yes. Tap Add text again for each new caption. Choose which one to edit from the list in the panel, or tap it on the picture.
How do I make text easier to read on a photo?
Turn on Outline, use a bold font, and make the text larger. On a busy photo, add the Dark base gradient behind the caption.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Text is drawn onto the photo in your browser and the file never leaves your device.
Will the downloaded image have a watermark?
No. The tool is free and never adds a watermark.
Can I change the text after adding it?
Yes. Every edit stays changeable until you download, and Undo (Ctrl or Cmd + Z) steps back through your changes.
Which fonts can I use?
A sans-serif, a serif and a rounded typeface, using the fonts your device already has. That is why the letters can look slightly different between a phone and a computer.
