Blur part of a photo, or all of it

Hide faces, names and number plates with a box or a brush, or soften the whole picture. It all happens on your device.

Drop a photo to blur, or click to choose

JPG, PNG or WebP. It stays on your device.

How it works

  1. Choose a photo. It opens on your device with the blur tool ready.
  2. Drag a box or paint with the brush. Cover a face, a name or a number plate. The blur appears as soon as you let go, and you can add as many areas as you need.
  3. Download. Undo any area you got wrong first; the saved file has the blur baked into its pixels.

Three ways to blur

Box

Drag a rectangle over the area. Best for documents, screens and number plates.

Brush

Paint over uneven shapes like faces or a person in a crowd. Set the brush size first.

Whole picture

Soften everything, for a background behind text or a dreamy look.

Blurring to hide something private

A blur at full strength spreads every pixel over a wide area, so faces and text become unreadable shapes. Use a strong setting for anything sensitive, cover a little more than the thing itself, and look at the result before you share it. For an account number or a password, the safest option is to crop it out entirely, which the full photo editor can do in the same session.

The photo never leaves your device: the blur is worked out in your browser. Saving the file also drops most hidden metadata, such as the GPS location your phone may have recorded.

Common questions

How do I blur a face in a photo?
Choose the photo, switch to Brush and paint over the face, or drag a box over it. Raise Strength if you can still make out features, then download.
Can someone un-blur my image?
The saved file contains only the blurred pixels, not the original. A strong blur over a generous area leaves too little detail to recover a face or text. A weak blur over small text can sometimes still be guessed, so use a strong setting for anything sensitive, or crop the detail out.
Is my photo uploaded to blur it?
No. Everything runs in your browser and the photo stays on your device.
Can I blur several areas?
Yes. Add as many boxes and brush strokes as you like. Each one can be undone, and one button removes them all.
Can I blur the background and keep the subject sharp?
Paint the background with the brush, leaving the subject alone. There is no automatic subject detection, so you choose exactly what is blurred.
Does it work without dragging?
Yes. The Add a blur box in the middle button places a box without dragging, and the whole-picture slider works from the keyboard.
Is it free?
Yes, with no sign-up and no watermark on what you download.
