Convert PNG to JPG

Turn PNG images into JPG files that are much smaller for photos and open anywhere. Transparent parts are filled with the colour you choose.

Drop a PNG image, or click to choose

Add several PNG files to convert them together. JPG, WebP and AVIF work too.

Need several changes to one photo? The Photo editor does crop, text, filters and blur together.

How to convert PNG to JPG

  1. Add your PNG files. JPG is already chosen, so each PNG is converted as soon as it opens. Add several at once if you like.
  2. Pick a fill and a quality. Transparent parts of the PNG become the fill colour, white unless you choose another. The quality starts at 92%, which looks the same as the original for photos.
  3. Download. One image saves as a JPG; several save together as one zip.

How much smaller the JPG gets

For photos, a lot. PNG stores every pixel exactly, which suits flat graphics but makes photos huge. JPG keeps what the eye notices and drops the rest. For a screenshot full of text, there is almost no saving, and JPG can leave faint smudges around letters.

What happens to a transparent background

JPG has no transparency, so every see-through pixel needs a colour. The converter paints them with the fill you pick, white by default, before saving. A logo on a transparent background becomes a logo on a white square. If you need the transparency, keep the PNG, or choose WebP, which keeps transparency and is still much smaller than PNG for photos.

When to keep the PNG

  • Screenshots of text, code or a user interface: the JPG is barely smaller and less crisp.
  • Logos and icons that sit on coloured pages and need their transparent background.
  • Files you will keep editing. Each JPG save loses a little detail, so edit the PNG and convert once at the end.

If the JPG is still too big for an upload, run it through Compress image with a KB target.

Common questions

Will converting PNG to JPG lose quality?
A little, because JPG is lossy. At the 92% starting quality you will not see it in a photo. Text and sharp lines show it first. Raise the quality if you see smudges, or keep that image as PNG.
What happens to the transparent background?
It is filled with the colour you pick, white unless you change it. JPG cannot store transparency.
Why is my JPG almost as big as the PNG?
The PNG is probably a screenshot or a graphic with flat colour, which PNG already stores efficiently. Converting only pays off for photos.
Can I convert many PNG files at once?
Yes. Add them together, tap any thumbnail to compare it, and download them all as one zip.
Does it change the width and height?
No. The JPG has exactly the same pixel size as the PNG.
Can I turn the JPG back into a PNG?
You can choose PNG as the output, but detail JPG removed does not come back, and a transparent background cannot be recovered.
Are my PNG files uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser and the files stay on your device.
